Canyonlands, Utah

On last years third quarter interim trip, I went backpacking in Canyonlands, Utah. This was an interesting trip for me because I hadn't really planned on going . I knew about the trip for a while and it seemed like it would be fun but for some reason I just didn't feel like going. It wasn't until the day before they left that I decided to go but I didn't even know if I would be able to so I talked to Susy about it as soon as I could and she told me there was one spot available and that  I was welcome to join if I could get a signed permission form before the next morning. I figured, if anything, it would be better than sitting around an empty school doing nothing. That night I went home and started packing my things. The next morning my bag was ready to go but I didn't have a permission form. On their way out of Glenwood and towards Utah, Susy stopped at my house in New Castle with a permission form and got it signed. I fell asleep for part of the bus ride and woke up in parking lot of the Fruita City Market. I went inside and bought a few snacks and drinks, got back on the bus, and again I soon fell asleep. I woke up just outside of Moab realizing we were now in Utah. It wasn't long before we arrived at the trail head in Canyonlands and started unpacking the bus. It must have been around one o'clock when we started hiking. It was about a two or three hour hike to the campsite and we right in the middle of a huge sheer rock canyon. The sun set soon after and we made made dinner, the sky was clear and full of stars. As I fell asleep on the ground looking at the stars I was glad I came along. Early the next morning we stared off on another hike. We hiked miles up the canyon, up rocky cliff faces and over cold streams, until we found a good place to have lunch. We sat on a high canyon wall and looked over miles of vast desert as we ate. After enjoying the view for what seemed like hours we began hiking down. When we got back to camp, everyone was tired and ready to sleep and once again as I looked up at the starry sky I was glad I decided to go. The next morning we ate breakfast and went on a short early morning hike to wake up. When we got back to camp we packed up and began to make our way out. After we were on the bus for a while most everyone fell asleep. It was an exceptional experience and I would do it again any day of the week. I really enjoyed because I had never been on a backpacking trip before and I am definitely glad I went.
